Shoutbox And Konqueror Not exactly the best of friends

Using Linux rather than Windows, I use Konqueror to browse the web quite a bit, and I have noticed that the shoutbox disappears under Konqueror. I tried changing pretty much any option I found in Konqueror and enabled every possible feature but it still didn't appear. Then out of sheer desperation, I went through the list of browsers I could mask Konqueror as, and tried each one. I found a few that work flawlessly.

Internet Explorer v6.0

Mozilla v1.7.3

Netscape Navigator v7.1

Firefox v1.0.7 and greater

Safari v1.2.4 and greater spoofing as Mac OS X

When I appear as one of those the shoutbox works with no problems at all. Even the AJAX moderating functions and all that work. So why is it hidden from Konqueror when it is clearly capable of displaying the shoutbox?

Sounds like a Bug that needs to be reported to the people that wrote the Shoutbox. There is a site that has a bug reporting feature, but I don't have a link, sorry.I doubt very much that Opaque or Buffalohelp can fix this. There are (apparently) several ways to 'sense' Browsers and different 'methods' are used for the scripts depending on the Browser, so it appears they do not rank Konquerer a large enough group to warrant handling properly... I guess.

Unfortunately I agree that Konquerer is not something that webmasters or scripters notice when they make their websites. For me, when I make websites I only test them on 4 different browsers: Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox 2.0+ and Opera 9. Is your OS or computer capable of running Firefox? I'm pretty sure that it should be, so I would recommend using Firefox instead. It's basically the only browser so far that's compatible with everything.

BuffaloHelp

We've had so many issues with IE6 for the longest time. Although OpaQue said there was nothing wrong, the fact from the Shoutbox author (Dean) claimed that he wrote it just for FireFox. And as IE6 and above made few updates (Windows Update) it was able to render the Shoutbox correctly.Yes, there's nothing OpaQue can do since the Shoutbox author said he only wrote it to be compatible with FireFox... looks like he's taking the side :P

Hey rvalkass,

Can you do me a favour, please visit the AEF Forum site using your Konquerer Browser and tell me if the Shoutbox there works okay with it?

Thanks.

I do :P Once you start using it and realise how many major sites have been coded badly so they just completely fail in Konqueror, it opens your eyes and you start making sure your sites work. For example, Tesco's site is completely unusable in Konqueror, but works in IE. Why? They just can't be bothered to code it right.

Yeah, I've got Firefox on here now, and Opera. Firefox just takes quite a while to load, and doesn't fit in with my KDE theme :D Opera is a little better, but Java applets don't work too well.

Unfortunately I can't even log in to the forum. I keep getting an "Unexpected end of data, some information may be lost" error thrown at me, so I never get logged in. So, short answer, no it doesn't work. However, you've got some more major issues to deal with first.

That is with Konquerer?

But does FF2 work okay for you? Might it be a Proxy issue? or do you use a Proxy?

Firefox and Opera let me log in, and the shoutbox works perfectly. I'm not behind a proxy or anything. I have also tried running AEF locally and accessing it, and I get the same error, so I guess there is something wrong with the code, perhaps not sending the ?> at the end or something. It should be something quite easy to fix (I've never seen that error on any other site).

}//The defualt footersaeffooter();}?>
Every page I have checked have the above closing to it.

I've been squashing bugs to get the AEF Forum Software to fit into w3c Standards Compliance for about three weeks now and I have never had a non-ending php tag yet. It is coming along nicely, but i will certainly report this 'bug' to the Development Team.
Thanks for finding this one.
Since Konquerer is one of the very few Browsers which is Standards Compiant, I would like to think that it should be a priority to serve the Forum to, instead of less Compliant, more popular browsers. (not mentioning any names, but its initials are IE...)

Hehe, seeing if a sight works on Konqueror or not is the way you can make sure it will work on everything else :P

Apparently, the script tags are missed the CDATA delimiters, and that is what is causing the problem with the AEF Forums... at least that is what i was told. Kinda makes sense, I guess, doesn't know where the script ends, so it wait for the script to finish???CDATA delimiters "should" be in there, according to what I know... they'll be in the next release, for sure.
