1and1 Domain service experience

Recommended Posts

Grr.I registered with 1and1, probably because there the cheapest. Now I know why. I first found nothing wrong with 1and1, infact, I thought they were pretty nice. Now I know they're not.. From what I hear nameserver changes take up to 1milisecond. Why is 1and1 taking over 2 days sometimes? Could be the fact they're using stone-age technology. But, I'm no webdesigner - oh wait, yes I am.I had to modify my MX Entries, as most of you know by now, to get goolge apps to work with my domain. I wanted to provide my very small masses with personalize ot-design.net emails. I thought it'd be coolio. The only way of changing MX Entries with 1and1, is reverting ALL nameservers, to THERE nameservers. So there was absolutely not way I could do this without messing up my website. Which is now down by the way, because the nameservers are incorrect.GoDaddy was supposed to be much better, so I decided to go there. Well, it was 20 bucks to much for me, so I decided not to. Xisto - Web Hosting was much easier, once I figured out my transfer secret. (ohhh). So now I'll have another 2 days appox. of downtimes, all because of 1and1's slow...whatever they have that's slow. Hopefully with Xisto - Web Hosting it won't take ages to change. I'm a little upset that I referred my friend to 1and1 for his business a few days ago.I dislike 1and1! Arg! Share your complaints and hatred for there slowness and monkeys working at there servers.

Well yeah 1&1 is a *BLEEP* company. Godaddy i cant say anything because i never personally tried it. As far as i know Xisto is my best host for free. I realised instead of paying i better get free hosting because my site is a hobby site anyways and why waste money on it. I love this site.

Learn from your mistakes, I am sure you'll never go there again. I always use Xisto - Web Hosting for all my domain needs. They're speedy and as you know, the Xisto - Web Hosting support is excellent! Well I have to rush.Have a good day!

I've used Schuland & Partner AG for 10 years now. (That's the German Company that owns 1&1) And I can't complain. We use them for our corporate hosting and dedicated servers at work. Very reasonable and I can't complain. But I work on sites in the US and in the EU and dealing with EU can be a different ballgame. (EU data protection laws and such) Whenever we make any server changes, we always plan for a 72-hour delay. Usually it's completed with in 24 hours.

I'm mainly talking about there dns services. I couldn't change MX Entries without changing my domain ns's. Much easier to do it on Xisto - Web Hosting. But I'm still waiting for the transfer request approval....which is taking forever.

i have not messed with any of the MX setting on 1and1, but everything else ive done regarding my domains has been fineive got 6 or so through them, the first took about 2 days for dns to update, but the rest after that have been within 4-6 hrs, which is not bad if you ask meeven changing nameservers has been relatively fast, so ill still refer people to 1and1, at least for domain purchases

I like 1&1 for their prices, but the advanced settings for domains are purely owrthless. If you want to change your domain's MX entries, use cPanel to do that (Email -> Modify Mail Exchanger). I would be willing to experiment with the DNS stuff if I had 1&1 hosting, but until that happens (not likely, since OpaQue's computingHot is mighty fine), I'll leave everything as is.
