Double Whammy Quote Tags versus Delete Topic

As a test of the Credit system, to appease my curiosity, I created a test topic here in the Staff section so that it would not be visible to the general membership.

Based on the volume of the posting, I earned 10 credits (+/-) for the posting. I then added quote tags to the entire posting and checked my credits. Exactly the same number of credits were removed.

Okay, I thought, then this is a zero (net) credit posting now, so I will delete it so that the forum isn't cluttered with junk, blah, blah, blah...

Deleting the topic reduced my credits by a further 15 (+/-) credits. WOW!

Point to be made: there is a double whammy when you add quote tags and then delete a posting, so be advised that this happens and can impact a member's credit standing in a harsh manner.

Of course, not many posts earn this number of credits, so the impact won't be quite as severe, but..... the option to seriously affect a member's credit standing is to: first add quote tags and then delete the posting, too.

Yes that is very true. And thus OpaQue asked all moderated topics to be moved to SPAM TOPICS ADJUSTED to be deleted safely. Even deleting topics already in SPAM TOPICS ADJUSTED, it will cause huge credit shift in member's hosting credit counts. OpaQue is still working on SPAM deleting script...but that will have to wait until few other programming projects to be finish. This is another reason why we ask members to report spams instead of replying to the topic or thread. Some hosting members know that SPAM TA does not reverse the credits earned, so they reply "hey don't spam in our form...etc etc" to gain some hosting credits and not be penalize for it.If spam post is found within a good topic, I wrote a tutorial on how to split a post from a topic.Remember, delete a topic ONLY if it's a pure spam with no other replies. But when in doubt, make it unapprove and move to SPAM TOPICS ADJUSTED.PS, even if it's a spam topic, when a topic is worth leaving to the discussion use the CREDIT SUBTRACTION SCRIPT. If you do not have this link PM me.

Nice!! find haslip even I didn't know that, That sure is a double wammy, have you tried deleting the topic without quotes to see if 15 credits were reduced at all?Of course example from what buff mention was that incident with wappy about the redirection script were I move the whole topic over including the non spam posts. Wonder if Opa knew about that penalty as well?I smell another revision of the script yet again.

That's why when you asked me to purge the STA section I told you that OpaQue will handle it with an external script. :) He knows everything.

thx Johnny.now can I have my 15 credits back? (just kidding) I have too many now...

Johnny's recent discovery about the "merge" effect got me wondering if this topic is also still valid?Sort of the opposite of Johnny's find, this one erases excess credits. Did the most recent changes to Credit / Edit script overcome this particular situation where adding quote tags and then deleting increases the number of credits reduced?I forgot to inquire when the script was updated.
