Ipod Not Working, Need Help

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I didn't see anywhere else for it...Ok, my girlfriend got a 4 GB iPod Nano about a month ago. She had about 100 songs on it and one day they just disappeared. Her normal PC won't recognize that she has the iPod plugged in, and her stepdad's laptop will recognize it... But after she transfers all the songs, and she unplugs the iPod from the laptop, she loses all of her songs again...She talked to an apple guy, but they said she needed to do a system restore on it, but they didn't tell her how... And she can't return it because she got it engraved... Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm not sure if the process is the same for all Ipods, but to do a system restore on my 4g ipod you have to do the following:
1) You will need to download and install the Ipod Updater HERE
2) You will follow the steps in the updater, to refresh the ipod. It will say something like..this will delete all your data..but you don't care since it's already gone.
3) For the final step, in order to reflash the firmware you need to plug it directly in to the wall. On my 4g I get a little picture of the plug plugging into the wall until I do it then it reflashes and everything is back.

If that doesn't work check the ipodlounge someone on their forum should be able to help you.

I thought about the ipod video, but then I thought, why would I want to watch a video on that tiny screen when I have a psp? I only need 4 gigs of music storage (less than 2 gigs, and over 700 songs currently), so an ipod video or anything 20gb or larger is just a waste to me. I'm happy with my 4 gig nano.

There is no "format CD", what you can do is connect the ipod to your computer, run itunes, and click on you ipod on the left menu, then click restore, which will format your ipod.Try telling us the problem? Is it not turning on?is it displaying a folder icon?Is it displaying a "sad ipod" icon?

It looks like your gf is unpluging it wrong, or it is an iTunes problem, do you have the latest software, is she safely removing the hardware or what? Most problems are driver based, but something iTunes does give your ipod a litle, use-me-only bug so when you connect your ipod on a computer that there isn't an Apple software it kinda go a litle bit crazy.
